Plainfield - A 56-year-old Canterbury woman remained in critical condition Wednesday afternoon after police said she was attacked by as many as four dogs at a Plainfield residence.

Lynne Denning of 521 South Canterbury Road, Canterbury, a self-employed health care worker, was attacked at 11 a.m. while caring for an elderly patient at the patient’s 379 Putnam Road home in the Wauregan section of Plainfield.

Denning suffered “brutal injuries to her face, chest, arms and legs,” according to a statement from Plainfield Police Capt. Mario Arriaga.

The owner of the dogs, identified by police as 29-year-old Jenna Allen, and an unidentified man were able to secure the dogs and allow medical personnel to treat Denning at the scene, police said. Denning was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich and transferred to Hartford Hospital, where she remained in critical condition late Wednesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Plainfield police and the town’s animal control officer were called to the scene where six dogs were seized from the residence, including five Rottweilers and one Labrador retriever.

The dogs are being held in quarantine at the Plainfield Animal Shelter, where they will remain for two weeks pending further investigation.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
