UConn women meet UCLA today at Mohegan Sun Arena

Mohegan - The UConn women's basketball team played its second regular-season game in history Friday night that was not at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs or the XL Center in Hartford, beating No. 25 DePaul 98-64 at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.

    Today, then, makes three.

The No. 2 Huskies, who ended a near-two-week break with the victory over DePaul, meets UCLA at 5 p.m. today at Mohegan Sun Arena in the Hall of Fame Women's Challenge. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

Breanna Stewart finished with 25 points against DePaul, tying her season high. Freshman guard Gabby Williams scored a career-high 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting and had seven rebounds, while senior center Kiah Stokes moved past Maya Moore into fifth place on the Huskies' all-time blocked shots list (206).

UConn coach Geno Auriemma said after the DePaul game that Stewart has been playing at a different level the last week or so in practice.

"She has been a different kind of player the last seven days of practice," Auriemma said. "We could see that there was a little bit of a difference in her. ... I thought she was moving more. She was a lot more assertive and wasn't looking to pass the ball as much. She attacked the defense and she made shots."

UConn (7-1) is led by Stewart's 17.5 points per game and has three other starters averaging double figures in Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (16.9), Morgan Tuck (14.3) and freshman Kia Nurse (14.1). After today, the Huskies don't play again until Saturday when they return from the Christmas break to meet SMU at the XL Center, beginning American Athletic Conference play.

UCLA (4-5) is led by junior guard Nirra Fields with 16.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
