Fugitive wanted in NYC fatal stabbing arrested at Foxwoods Resort Casino

On Friday, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police arrested Arturo Lopez-Valle, a fugitive wanted for murder in New York City, in the bus lobby at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

On Friday, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police arrested Arturo Lopez-Valle — a fugitive wanted for murder in New York City — in the bus lobby at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Lopez-Valle is a suspect in a fatal stabbing of a 36-year-old man the night of Jan. 20 at a deli at 40th Street and 7th Avenue in New York City.

Lopez-Valle had gotten into an argument that police believe escalated into a physical altercation with the victim, according to a New York City Police Department spokesman, who declined to give his name.

The spokesman said both suspect and victim are homeless and that alcohol played a role in the event, the spokesman said.

Manhattan South detectives contacted tribal police at around 12:30 or 1 p.m. Friday to tell them to look for Lopez-Valle, who the New York authorities believed might have been at Foxwoods, according to tribal police Chief William Dittman.

Dittman said police found and arrested Lopez-Valle shortly thereafter, at 1:30 p.m. He said the suspect was sleeping at the time and cooperated with the arrest.

    “He was docile,” Dittman said.

He said he believed the suspect had arrived at the casino by bus at about 8:30 a.m. Friday, though he said he was not sure from where.

Lopez-Valle is being held at Mashantucket Tribal Police Headquarters on $100,000 bond and will be arraigned Monday.

Dittman said the timing of when the suspect is returned to New York City depends on whether the suspect opts for a hearing on the fugitive from justice charge in Connecticut.

NYPD will file charges against Lopez-Valle after law enforcement officials in New York interview him upon his return to the city, according to the NYPD spokesman.

The spokesman declined to state why NYPD suspected Lopez-Valle might have been at the casino.

Connecticut State Police and Foxwoods Security assisted on the case.
