Local roundup: Bruton's triple-double leads Ledyard to victory
Ledyard — DeAnte Bruton had 30 points, 13 assists and 11 steals for his second straight triple-double as Ledyard High School routed Hyde on Wednesday, 106-41, in a nonleague boys' basketball game.
Mario Graham had 29 points and Phyllip Thomas scored 18 for Ledyard (17-3), ranked 10th in the New Haven Register Top 10 media poll.
The Colonels outscored Hyde in the first quarter, 32-8.
No one scored in double figures for the Howling Wolves (12-8).
In other games:
• Old Lyme losed out its regular season with a 51-25 win over East Hampton in a Shoreline Conference game.
The Wildcats, which won for the sixth straight time, wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the Shoreline Conference tournament with the win. Jacob Ballachino and Hunter Sheffield scored 14 points each for Old Lyme (16-4, 14-4).
• Jacob Raggon had 31 points and Mike Dellaporta scored 23 as Wheeler closed out its regular season with an 82-58 win over Grasso Tech in a nonleague game. Max Dussault had 11 points for Wheeler (10-10). Joe Diaz had 16 points, Ocyrus Vazquez scored 15 and Kendrick Amaro had 10 points for Grasso Tech (3-16), which ends its season with a game at Putnam today.
Men's basketball
• UConn-bound Steve Enoch scored 15 points, leading St. Thomas More to a 77-71 win over New Hampton. Ryan Peterson had 14 points and 10 rebounds, E.J. Crawford scored 13 and Stephen Millhaven had 11 points for T-More (23-7).
Men's lacrosse
• Mitchell College opened its season with a 12-4 loss to Mount St. Mary's. Dan DiGioia scored twice and Joshua Muckle and Jordan Cook also scored while Aaron Sladyk, Will-Ryan Johnson and McCarthy Brodaski had assists.
H.S. hockey
• The Wethersfield/Rocky Hill/Middletown beat the Eastern Connecticut Eagles, 4-0, for its first win of the season. Tyler Luke had 30 saves for the Eagles (4-14).
H.S. swimming
• NFA/Ledyard closed out its dual-meet season with a 89-82 win over Granby in a nonleague meet on Tuesday night. Steven Boyd, Fred France and Jack Wheeler won two events each for NFA (8-5). Boyd won the 100-yard freestyle (53.09) and 200 freestyle (1:59.70), France won the 50 freestyle (23.57) and 100 butterfly (1:03.65) and Wheeler won the 200 individual medley (2:27.31) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.23).
Dylan Crider and Tim Yuen also won events and Seth Strader teamed up with Yuen, Wheeler, France, Crider and Boyd to win two relay events.
H.S. gymnastics
• Three local teams have qualified for the CIAC team gymnastics championships, which will be held Saturday at Pomperaug High in Southbury. In Class LL, which starts at 1:30 p.m., NFA qualified as the No. 4 seed with a 130.42 points scoring average and in Class S, which begins at 5:30, Stonington qualified fifth (121.44) and Old Lyme eighth (114.89).
