Mohegan Sun's Wining Author series hosts Sherrilyn Kenyon

You know how the Oscar ceremonies make a big deal out of the accountants from Price-Waterhouse bringing the voting results to the ceremony? Two tuxedo'd dudes - and, yes, they look like accountants (as opposed to, oh, Vin Diesel and James Franco) - walk the red carpet with the locked briefcase in a procession that's equal parts pomp and secrecy.

That's how I imagine bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon's royalty checks are delivered to her. The amazingly prolific novelist - over 30 million copies of her dozens of urban fantasy/paranormal stories, including the "Chronicles of Nick" and "Dark-Hunter" and "Legion" series, are in print all over the world - has an incredibly devoted legion of fans who affectionately ascribe a type of royalty to their favorite writer.

And why not? Anyone who generates that much happiness among readers deserves a bit of luxury, right?

Kenyon, on tour behind "Instinct," the latest Nick Gautier novel, appears Tuesday in the Mohegan Sun Cabaret as part of the casino's Winning Authors series. Afterwards, she'll sign books in the Shops at Mohegan Sun.
