We're pretty sure animals can't read or write — but they're very cool. Now, people? People can read and many enjoy books and animals. It will be a great combination thereof, then, at 2 p.m. Sunday at Niantic's Book Barn. Local author Nick Checker will host a theatrical reading of his latest novel, "Scratch" (Oak Tree Press), and a variety of animal rescue groups will be on hand showing off some wonderful animals that need homes. Take in the presentation, enjoy the amazing inventory at the Barn, scarf pizza from Antinore's, hear music by guitarist Rich Zack — and adopt a furry new family member.
