Local roundup: Norwich Tech advances to CSC baseball tournament final
Meriden — Connor Dulin allowed just two hits after the second inning and struck out eight with no walks as No. 4 Norwich Tech knocked off top-seeded Wilcox Tech on Tuesday, 7-3, in the Constitution State Conference baseball semifinals.
Norwich Tech (15-7) advances to its second final in three seasons. It will play No. 3 Cheney Tech in Thursday’s final at the University of Hartford (5 p.m.) Cheney beat No. 2 Kaynor Tech in the other semifinal, 2-1.
John Stabley went 2-for-3, including a go-ahead two-run double with two outs in the top of the fifth inning. Cal Senesac went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Dulin pitched a seven-hitter.
In other games:
• Matt Przybysz pitched a two-hitter as Old Lyme beat No. 5 Cromwell 1-0 in a Shoreline Conference tournament quarterfinal. No. 4 Old Lyme (14-7) is at No. 1 Morgan in a semifinal on Thursday at 4 p.m. Chase Hackett walked and scored from second base on a throwing error in the bottom of the fourth inning. Przybysz benefited from his defense turning three double plays, including one in the seventh inning that erased a leadoff walk.
Boys' tennis
• 15th seeded Bahaa Hoda of New London upset No. 2 Cameron Hartland of Woodstock Academy 7-5, 6-2 to reach the ECC quarterfinals.
Hoda will play No. 7 Parker Skaats of Lyman Memorial today. The other quarterfinal matches are No. 1 Alex Zuczek vs. No. 8 Jacob Kowalski (Fitch); No. 3 Nick Zuczek (St. Bernard) vs. Avery Oefinger (Stonington), and No. 4 Willie Dong (Waterford) vs. No. 5 Asa Scranton (Woodstock).
15th seeded Patrick Mahoney and David Abraham of St. Bernard stunned No. 2 Avish Patel and Chris Tsang of Stonington in the second round of doubles, 7-5, 3-6 (10-8).
Abraham and Mahoney will face No. 7 Dylan Vitale and Mike Gianakos of Waterford today. The other doubles quarterfinals are No. 1 Matthew Hausman-Samson Herbert (Waterford) vs. No. 9 Jake Skilbred-Ben McHale (Ledyard); No. 3 Evan Burdsall-Mike Castelpoggi (Waterford) vs. No. 6 Nipun Hewage-Eric Wu; and No. 4 Mukesh Kurumbail-Sujay Alavala (East Lyme) vs. Adam Piche-Max Mullen (Woodstock).
Both singles and doubles will play semifinals today. The finals are Thursday at Waterford (3 p.m.)
Softball
• Sam Muller's walk-off home run with one out in the eighth inning lifted Wheeler past Montville, 2-1, in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division. The Lions (18-2, 10-0) wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the ECC softball tournament with the win. Winning pitcher Jenn Paride went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out eight, and also doubled while Raven Houck went 2-for-4 for the Lions (18-2, 10-0). Nicole Dutka singled and had an RBI for the Indians (12-8, 6-4).
• Chloe Hespeler’s sacrifice fly scored Kali Money in the top of the seventh inning and gave Ledyard a 3-2 win over Woodstock Academy in the ECC Large. Hespeler pitched a three-hitter and Money went 2-for-3, including a double, for the Colonels (10-10, 3-7).
• Wilcox Tech beat Norwich Tech 5-0 in the CSC tournament quarterfinals. Kerrie Bellerose and Kaitlyn Gifford had two hits each for Norwich Tech.
• Jen Dawson's three-run home run in the third inning put Morgan ahead for good in an 8-3 win over East Lyme. Morgan improved to 16-4. Nicole Bowen had three hits and Kaylie Crosby and Carly Pucket each added two for the Vikings (14-6).
• Neisha Rodriquez had three hits, including two doubles, with three runs and three RBI as Windham beat New London, 19-7. Kenya Capers had two hits, including a two-run home run, Riley Barnes had two hits, including a double, and two runs, and Nikita Terry and Tiffany McPherson each had two hits and scored for New London (0-20).
Girls' tennis
• Lillian James, Susane Ortizdevillate, Tsering Buti and Brynn Doughty each won in singles for New London in its 6-1 win over Killingly in the ECC Medium. The teams of Blamely Cepeda and Katelyn Morales, and Yesha Patel and Olivia Santana, won at doubles for the Whalers (9-7, 3-5).
Boys' golf
• Stonington's Peter Holliman was the medalist as the Bears won a pair of matches, beating Wheeler and Fitch by identical 7-0 scores. Holliman shot a 36 and Jack Ognisty (39), Sam Ognisty (40), Tyler Snelgrove (41) and Will Cavaliere (41) were close behind for Stonington (16-2). Wheeler beat Fitch 4-3. Luke Teixeira led Fitch (2-17) with a 41 and Jake Umphlett (42) and Mike Anderson (45) of Wheeler (8-9) also broke 50.
• Norwich Tech defeated Abbott Tech, 217-256, in the Constitution State Conference. Joe Bacon (52) and Nick Ferraina (53) had the low scores for the Warriors (7-8, 5-5).
• Old Lyme beat Old Saybrook in a Shoreline Conference match, 176-191. Mason Swaney led Old Lyme with a 41 and teammates Matt McCarthy (44), Graham Aird (45) and Will Roberts (46) all broke 50.

• Dave Pirman pitched a four-hitter as the Panera Pirates beat Johnny Rockets 5-0 in the Eastern Connecticut Major League season opener.Pirman struck out eight with one walk. Tyler Mikula had a two-run double, Slater Gregory had two hits and Billy Buscetto doubled for the Pirates.
