Drink and laughter with comic Jay Larson

What are the greatest jobs in the world?

Being Tom Brady ain’t bad, but he actually has to work at it. Or what about Kanye? On the other hand, you’d feel obligated to show up at every awards show and boorishly interrupt someone on stage.

How about comedian Jay Larson? Yes, he’s got a fine standup career on the upswing — he’ll be at Comix in Foxwoods for four shows starting tonight through Saturday — but he’s also one of the hosts of an inspired Esquire network television program called “Best Bars in America.”

Yes! The premise is that Larson and colleague Sean Patton simply travel all over the country going to exotic and/or famous pubs and taverns and booze it up on someone else’s tab. How tremendous is that?

To be fair, the hangover quotient is probably fairly high, but even that has possibilities. One presumes Larson’s agent is already working on an endorsement deal with an aspirin company. Other projects include a recently released album called “Self-Diagnosed” and a weekly podcast, “The Crabfeast,” for Jay Mohr’s Fake Mustache Studios.

In the meantime, see Larson onstage this weekend. His routines on answering unknown phone numbers and confronting suspicious folks parking in handicapped spots are genuinely funny.
