    New London-based artists among 2015 CT Music Award winners

    New London-based artists Daphne Lee Martin and Straight to VHS are winners in the annual Connecticut Music Awards/Grand Band Slam Readers’ Poll conducted by the Hartford Courant’s CTNOW.

    Martin was named Best Singer-Songwriter while Straight to VHS won in the Best Punk category. Trophies were handed out in a ceremony Wednesday at Infinity Hall and Bistro in Hartford.

    On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, many of the winners and nominated acts will perform at the Awards’ Grand Band Slam shows at venues in Hartford, Wallingford, Bridgeport and New Haven.

    Three area acts will take part in the Slam shows. Martin plays at 9:30 p.m. Friday in The Half Door, 270 Sisson Ave., Hartford; (860) 232-7827. And, on Saturday, Flowers & Kain (9 p.m.) and NME the Illest (11 p.m.) take the stage at Sully’s Pub, 2071 Park St., Hartford; (860) 231-8881.
