Intercontinental Holding Company to acquire Tri-Town Foods

Intercontinental Holding Company will acquire the assets of Tri-Town Foods, with supermarkets located in Portland and East Lyme. Edward "Rick" Sharr Jr., President and CEO of Tri-Town Foods, made the announcement in a news release.

Edward Sharr Sr. had established Tri-Town Foods as a family business in 1969 when he took over the operation of the Tri Town Supermarket in Colchester. Joined by Sharr's son, Rick, the company opened up a second Colchester store in 1974. The company later expanded to Portland and East Lyme, with Kevin Brouillard and Jack Fitzpatrick joining the organization as partners.

Tri-Town Foods was selected the IGA International Retailer of the year in 2005. The company also recently held its 15th Charity Golf Tournament from which it contributed more than $60,000 to local organizations.

At this time, the stores will continue to operate as Tri-Town Foods, the company said in the news release. Intercontinental Holding Company operates 12 supermarket locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island under the names of Adams Hometown Markets, Better Val-U Supermarkets and Jerry's Market. Both Tri-Town Foods and Intercontinental Holding Company are supplied by Bozzuto’s, Inc., a Cheshire-based, family-owned wholesale distributor.
