Groton Regional Theatre is going for the comedy by staging Ken Ludwig's "Moon Over Buffalo," with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Ludwig, who also penned "Lend Me a Tenor," has created a similarly high-spirited play in "Moon." The original production, in 1995, starred Carol Burnett and marked her return to Broadway after 30 years.

The story is set among a group of theater actors in 1953. The troupe is led by a married couple — but the husband (played in the GRT production by Andy Plasse) has a fling with an ingénue.

The wife (Amy Polek), meanwhile, mistakes someone for Hollywood director Frank Capra and starts fawning over him, in the hopes of getting a role in Capra's next film.

"Moon Over Buffalo" is performed Friday through Sunday until Aug. 2 at the Groton Senior Center, located on Route 117.

    Tickets are $15, $12 for seniors; (860) 446-1363.
