Old Lyme Democrats endorse Reemsnyder for third term

Old Lyme — Democrats endorsed incumbent Bonnie Reemsnyder for a third term as first selectwoman at their caucus on Monday.

"I'm thrilled I was endorsed and very honored to be asked to serve another term," Reemsnyder said in a phone interview.

Reemsnyder said she has worked very hard over the past four years to look for projects to improve the town while being fiscally responsible.

She said she would like to keep working on the boathouse, the Water Pollution Control Authority project and the Sound View and Route 156 bikeway project.

"I want to continue to work on those, and continue to serve the people," she said.

On Monday, Democrats also endorsed incumbent Selectwoman Mary Jo Nosal for the Board of Selectmen.

For the Board of Finance, the Democratic Town Committee endorsed incumbents David B. Woolley and Bennett J. Bernblum. They nominated Adam S. Burrows to serve as an alternate on the Board of Finance.

For the Lyme-Old Lyme Board of Education, the Democratic Town Committee nominated incumbents Paul Fuchs and Michelle Roche, as well as Peter Hunt, who is a psychologist in private practice and a counselor in the Waterford school system.

Sarah Smalley, who is serving a two-year term on the Board of Education, will not seek another term because of commitments with a new job, Woolley said.

Democrats also backed Jane Cable, the chairwoman of the Zoning Commission, for another term.

The slate of candidates endorsed Monday included incumbents Karen Conniff and Kip Kotzan for the Zoning Board of Appeals and Marisa Hartmann as an alternate on the Zoning Board of Appeals; Ruth Dillon Roach for tax collector; and Joseph Soucie for treasurer.

Woolley, the chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, said the slate represents a fine group of incumbents, as well as several new candidates of whom the board is very proud.

He said he is a strong supporter of Reemsnyder and Nosal.

"They have worked very hard in the past four years, and I'm anxious to see them win another term," he said.
