New Republican reps helped shellfish issues

The letter, “Dumping Democrats have hurt Groton in Hartford,” (July 23), is claiming that Reps. Scott and Bumgardner did nothing for the Town of Groton in this last session. Not true. For years the Groton Shellfish Commission sought assistance from our former Democratic representatives regarding a multitude of issues hamstringing recreational and commercial shellfishing operations in Groton. Under the leadership of the Democratic Reps. Wright and Moukawsher, that help never came.

Within two weeks of the election, both Scott and Bumgardner were actively investigating the shellfishing regulatory issues. They worked on a bipartisan basis with shoreline legislators from across the state to create a much needed Aquaculture Advisory Council. This council will help both recreational and commercial shellfishing and increase employment in Groton. They further were able to have a study passed that should ultimately bring a water testing laboratory to the UConn Avery Point campus.

For years Groton dealt with two do-nothing Democrats who only listened to our problems but did nothing to help. It is refreshing to see two Republicans in their place who are working to create jobs and who work across the aisle to get things accomplished in Hartford. Instead of throwing Scott and Bumgardner out, they should be re-elected.
