State troopers remind motorists to expect heavy traffic, exercise caution, allow extra time to reach their destination, set GPS destinations prior to traveling, and not to talk or text and drive while using a handheld mobile device.

Police said a person who consumes alcohol should never drive, and a designated driver should be established before weekend activities.

Police said anyone who sees a suspected drunk or hazardous driver should call 911.

For the school year, troopers also remind drivers to be especially vigilant watching for pedestrians during the before- and after-school hours.

Under state law, it is mandatory that drivers stop for school buses that have their flashing red warning lights activated.
