Mystic Aquarium eliminates several jobs with restructuring

Mystic — Mystic Aquarium confirmed Monday that it eliminated six positions last week as part of a restructuring effort which it said was not due to any financial pressures.

Aquarium spokeswoman Dale Wolbrink said the aquarium eliminated four jobs in its husbandry department and two in guest services. But she said there may eventually be no net loss of jobs as the husbandry positions will be restructured and filled while some junior positions may be eventually be added in guest services.

“At the beginning of 2015 Mystic Aquarium embarked on the implementation of a new strategic plan, 'One Ocean, One Mission' with a focus on building Mystic Aquarium for the future in mission programs including conservation, education and research along with guest experiences and more. We have made changes in operational procedure, structure and management since the implementation of the new plan as we strive to achieve the goals set within. They are not reflective of financial challenges,” she wrote in an email.
