Three Rivers Middle College to give presentations at New England educational forum

Norwich — Three Rivers Middle College Magnet High School will represent Connecticut at a regional conference on effective strategies for improving teaching and learning in the 21st century.

The conference, High School Redesign in Action, will take place today and Friday in Norwood, Mass., sponsored by the New England Secondary School Consortium, a state-led regional partnership committed to high school innovation.

Now in its seventh year, the conference will attract more than 900 educators, students, policy makers, and business leaders representing 17 states.

Nearly 30 New England schools, districts, and community organizations have been invited to present at the conference for their significant progress raising student achievement, graduation rates, college-enrollment numbers, or other indicators of educational success.

“Presenters from Three Rivers Middle College should be proud of the work they have done, in conjunction with their colleagues, to improve educational outcomes for all students,” David Ruff, executive director of the Great Schools Partnership and the New England Secondary School Consortium said in a press release statement. “They have committed to providing high-quality, equitable learning opportunities for New England students, and deserve this recognition for serving as beacons for schools in the region.”

The presentation by Three Rivers Middle College is titled “Creating a School Culture that Fosters Personalized Learning and “Smart Creatives.”

School presenters include Principal Brad Columbus and students Cassandra Coates and Olamide “Grace” Ladoja.

The student presentation will give student perspective on what it is like to learn in a personalized-learning high school.
