Police arrest suspect in Griswold robbery

A Griswold man was charged on a warrant Wednesday in connection with an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store and gas station in Jewett City in April.

Garrett Loubier, 25, of 75 Ashland St., Apt. E, was charged by state police with carrying and sale of dangerous weapons, sixth-degree larceny and first degree robbery.

According to the arrest warrant, Loubier was identified from a video obtained by police at Chucky’s Mobile Service Station at 7 Main St., as the suspect in the April 12 incident.

The suspect displayed a black handgun and a small pocket knife and attempted unsuccessfully to open the cash register, according to the warrant.

The store clerk chased him off with a fire extinguisher, the warrant said.

Police called to the store after the incident used a K-9 to track the suspect through a Rite Aid parking lot next door to the Mobile station to 75 Ashland St., but the suspect was not home at the time.

The warrant states that Loubier also was arrested on charges in a residential burglary in Jewett City.
