Los Angeles — Former UConn star Breanna Stewart was honored as the collegiate woman athlete of the year Monday night, earning the Honda Cup.

She beat out Michigan softball player Sierra Romero and Penn State soccer star Raquel Rodriguez. Stewart is the 16th basketball player to win the honor and fifth from UConn, joining Maya Moore (2010, 2011), Jennifer Rizzotti (1996) and Rebecca Lobo (1995).

Stewart guided UConn to its fourth consecutive national championship and became the first player in NCAA history to earn the Final Four Most Outstanding Player honor four times.

The 6-foot-4 forward was the first pick in the WNBA draft by the Seattle Storm in April and has flourished in the league so far. She also made the U.S. Olympic women's basketball team that will compete in Brazil this summer.
