Day too often backs same Democrats

Recently The Day ran two large editorials on the fate and condition of Connecticut. The Democrats in control of the governorship and both legislative chambers have brought the state to the fiscal condition we all face. Other than Sen. Paul Formica, how many candidates from other parties has The Day endorsed? Every election The Day backed the same old Democratic candidates, be they state senators or representatives. Yet The Day editorial finishes with: "and the voting public needs to pay attention to these often ignored races and recognize the critical decisions those they are sending to Hartford will have to make."

Sending the same people time and again has brought this upon us, and The Day is just as guilty in repeatedly endorsing the same people.

I hope that some changes are made, especially since not one elected official has even tried to end the outrageous raise the president of UConn is getting. Their argument is we need to pay this to keep good people in office. Bull! There are others out there just as qualified making much less that would jump at the job. The same applies to trustees and professors. I think we need Gov. Raimondo to come over from Rhode Island and show Hartford how it's done.

Editor's note: In the 2014 election The Day endorsed local Republicans Aundre Bumgardner and John F. Scott for the state House of Representatives, as well as Republican state Senate candidates Art Linares and Formica. All were subsequently elected.
