Sun can't break without winning first

The Connecticut Sun have one game left to make up ground in the WNBA standings before the Olympic break.

Connecticut plays at the Chicago Sky on Friday night (Allstate Arena, 8:30 p.m.), and both are among the seven teams with losing records.

The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs this season regardless of conference. Chicago (11-12) would be seeded sixth if the season ended today. The Sun (7-16) are way back at No. 11.

Connecticut is a longshot to make the postseason, but it can make up ground in its last 11 games. The Seattle Storm (9-14) and Washington Mystics (9-14) are tied for the eighth-best record and both have a three-game lead over the Sun based on each winning the season series vs. the latter.

The Phoenix Mercury (10-14) are in seventh and also hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Connecticut.

The Sun have won four of their last seven games. The Sky have a three-game winning streak, including winning their last two games in the final second. They routed Connecticut on opening night (90-73, May 14), thus the Sun must win the final two meetings to earn a tiebreaker.
