Sun hit the road to face Dream in Atlanta

The Connecticut Sun, who began their post-Olympic season with an impressive 84-80 win over the reigning WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx on Friday night, get back to work on Sunday with a road game at the Atlanta Dream (3 p.m., WCCT).

The Sun are 9-16 with nine games remaining and trail the Seattle Storm (10-15) by one game for the final WNBA playoff spot. This is the first season the top eight teams, regardless of conference, will qualify for the postseason.

"It is good to pick up where we left off," Sun forward Alyssa Thomas said Friday night. "We are right there and we now we have to keep winning and grinding it out."

Thomas led Connecticut, which has now won a season-best three games, and was one of six Sun players to score in double figures.

"We had great balance, we got different things from a lot of people all and a great way to start this last stretch," Sun first-year head coach Curt Miller said.

Atlanta (13-12) lost its first post-Olympics game to the Chicago Sky on Friday, 90-82. The Dream are led by U.S. Olympian Angel McCoughtry, who is averaging 18.4 points per-game, former UConn guard Tiffany Hayes, who is averaging 14.5 points, and former Sun forward Elizabeth Williams, who is averaging 11.9 points and 7.6 rebounds.

This is the start of a four-game, eight-day stretch for the Sun, who return home to play the San Antonio Stars (Tuesday) and Phoenix Mercury (Friday) before visiting the Lynx on Sunday, Sept. 4.
