Don't fleece taxpayers for pol's propaganda

As a Connecticut resident and victim of the continued fiscal irresponsibility of our elected politicians, I was irate when I opened U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy’s most recent propaganda mailer. The full-color tri-fold ad is printed on expensive heavy stock paper. I was going to just toss it into the recycling bin as just another bloviated piece of political trash, but then I noticed the white all-caps note on the back of the mailer which read: “Prepared, published, and mailed at taxpayer expense.”

My tax dollars are being used to pay for this expensive self-promoting garbage? Regardless of my party affiliation or feelings towards Sen. Murphy, this is yet another example of the irresponsible use of taxpayer funds. Why are we paying for this?

Our state politicians have long since proven that they hold taxpayers' money with little regard beyond that of their personal slush fund. Perhaps, if Sen. Murphy wanted to put his actions where his mouth usually is, he would pay for such mailers out of his own re-election campaign funds or private funds instead of perpetuating the irresponsible spending of our hard-earned tax dollars.
