    EMPLOYMENT

    Todd Bower has been named assistant vice president and branch manager of the Corporate branch location at Dime Bank. Prior to joining Dime, he was a branch manager for a community bank.

    A Connecticut resident for over 25 years, Bower holds a B.A. in business administration from University of Missouri Kansas City, and is a graduate of the CT School of Finance and Management.

    The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT will hold its annual “State of Norwich” update on Friday, Oct. 7, 7:30-9 a.m. at Norwich City Hall, 100 Broadway. City officials, including Mayor Deb Hinchey, Superintendent of Schools Abby Dolliver, and Bob Mills of the Norwich Community Development Corp., will provide updates. Admission is $5 for Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT members, $10 for non-members, and includes continental breakfast.     GRANTS

    The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has awarded funds to Plainfield High School for the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for use at school athletic events. Announcement of the grant was made by Kevin C. Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank.

    The Arc New London County was awarded $3,235, raised by Comcast/NBCUniversal employees as part of last spring’s national Comcast Cares Day. The Arc had been selected as the regional site for the annual event, in which Comcast employees volunteer at a non-profit agency and complete a variety of projects. Comcast purchased materials and supplied volunteers, who worked with the Arc’s 15 participant volunteers to paint interior walls and plant gardens around the Sachem Street facility in Norwich. The award was the result of their fundraising efforts after the event.

    AWARDS

    The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT is seeking nominations for its Military Community Support Award, which recognizes a business that has gone above and beyond in showing support to our local men and women in uniform. Companies nominated must be a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT. Self-nominations are allowed. The recipient business receives special recognition in the 7th Annual Military Appreciation Breakfast on Nov. 4, and will be given a plaque, speaking opportunity, and two complimentary reservations to the breakfast.     United Community & Family Services has been recognized by the Hartford Courant/FOX 61 as a Top Workplace in Connecticut in the Not-For-Profit sector for the second year in a row.
