Rabid skunk discovered in Groton
Groton - A rabid skunk has been found in the area of Indian Field Road, Ledge Light Health District announced Thursday.
The skunk attacked a dog, and both the skunk and the dog have been killed, according to Ryan McCammon, supervisor of environmental health at Ledge Light. The skunk tested positive for rabies, and the dog was not up to date on its rabies vaccine, he said.
Ledge Light is working with an individual who came in contact with the blood of one of the animals. The public is reminded to refrain from feeding or approaching any wild animals.
