Man charged with attempting to move money through casino

LINCOLN, R.I. (AP) — A Massachusetts man is accused of trying to move large amounts of money through a Rhode Island casino multiple times in an attempt to avoid federal reporting requirements.

WPRI-TV reports 29-year-old Alejandro Suero, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, faces federal charges alleging he cashed out more than $10,000 dollars in casino chips in separate transactions to avoid filling out paperwork that would identify him to the federal government.

Suero was arrested last year. He was scheduled to plead guilty Wednesday but the hearing was postponed. A call to Suero's attorney wasn't returned.

A state police affidavit says Suero was seen on surveillance buying chips from table games at Twin River Casino on several occasions in 2014. It says he then attempted to cash in those chips at different cashier windows.
