UConn receives signed letter of intent from Cobb

Junior college transfer Eric Cobb's signed national letter of intent has arrived at UConn, sealing his commitment to the men's basketball program.

Cobb, a 6-foot-8, 285-pound forward, has two years of eligibility remaining and fills a vital need in the frontcourt for the Huskies. He gave UConn a verbal commitment last month.

He averaged 10.9 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 52.6 percent from the field and 66.1 from the foul line last season for Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. He earned second team all-conference honors.

"Eric brings us some size in the frontcourt and he can be a great rebounder because he has that tough mindset," coach Kevin Ollie said in a release. "It puts a value on posting up and creating space inside and we need a guy like that.

"But he's also a guy who is flexible. ... he can pick and pop. He's a great person, who I think is going to do a great job at UConn."

Coming out of St. Francis Academy in Baltimore, Cobb spent his freshman season at the University of South Carolina, seeing limited action in 24 games, before landing at Chipola College.
