Groton open house to offer resources to small businesses

Groton — Groton will host a small business open house on Wednesday to let businesses know about programs that help with everything from permit applications to government contracts.

The event, scheduled from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex, is jointly offered by the Connecticut Small Business Association and is open to all area businesses. Representatives from Community Investment Corp., the Community Economic Development Fund and the State Department of Economic and Community Development are among the agencies scheduled to attend.

“The strategy is to give the business owners the opportunity to meet face to face and just understand what’s available,” said Groton Economic Development Specialist Sam Eisenbeiser. The Small Business Administration is also trying to ramp up outreach, he said.

The open house will offer information about programs from tax abatements and tax incentives, franchising and marketing, business plan consulting and permitting. The event has also invited a representative from the Procurement Technical Assistance Program to speak to business owners about technical help available to those seeking government contracts.

“So if a business comes to this forum - maybe they came to find out something about financing - but maybe they find out about (the procurement technical assistance program),” Eisenbeiser said. “Maybe they find out they can get some assistance with government contacting.”

Registration is encouraged but not required. To register, email Lauren Post at LPost@groton-ct.gov.
