Norwich activist Lottie Scott to receive diversity award

Norwich – Longtime Civil Rights activist and local arts promoter Lottie Scott will be honored Wednesday with the Willard McRae Community Diversity Award, presented by Liberty Bank.

About 100 attendees are expected at the event, to be held at 6:15 p.m. at the Spa at Norwich Inn, 607 W. Thames St., Norwich.

Scott, nominated by Norwich native Barry Shead, was selected for the award in honor of “her advocacy and leadership in promoting cultural diversity,” Liberty Bank spokeswoman Jane Brosnan said.

Scott will have the opportunity to donate $5,000 from the Liberty Bank Foundation to the nonprofit of her choice, which will be announced at the end of the program.

In 2013, Norwich Rotary clubs named Scott as the recipient of its inaugural diversity award and named the award the Lottie B. Scott Diversity Award in her honor.
