Troubling forces rise up behind Trump

A majority of the country was so proud when Barack Obama, the first African-American, was elected president.

Unfortunately the euphoria didn’t last long as Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell announced his priority was to make Obama a one-term president. These words paved the way for the revival of long-dormant racists, white supremacists, Nazis and the alt right.

They spewed forth Donald Trump, who galvanized these people and other malcontents. He led the charge that Obama was not an American citizen and promoted that lie for six more years. We can forgive stupidity and incompetence but not a congenital liar and a bully. The blame lies not from without but from within.

Many millions of citizens didn’t vote during the 2016 election, which is a sad commentary on our republic. Now we are left with a nation of guns that is utterly divided and led by a man who has come to be the Great Divider. We may reap the whirlwind, as the saying goes. Do you want your children to read future history books about a president who says he grabs women and insults people? I fear that will be the case. Speak out!
