Day coverage shines, but not in this town

I attend the Estuary Senior Center in Old Saybrook. Some folks like reading The Day when I bring it there, and even say its better than the Hartford Courant, except there is no local Old Saybrook news. Perhaps this is an opportunity to be explored by you.

In the letter, "Flag means nothing if protest blocked," (Nov. 13), the writer is correct in my opinion. It has been my feeling for quite a while that some politicians hide behind the flag to use it as a tool to enhance their own image and patriotism. The present situation applies, in my opinion.

When Americans recite The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, I wonder how many realize what that pledge commits them to, especially when they pledge "with liberty and justice for all." Does it mean anything or are they just words? There would be no prejudice in this country if they truly accepted that pledge. That applies to the general population as well as to all our leaders.
