Norwich — A driver was taken to the hospital on Tuesday under life-threatening conditions after apparently having a medical emergency and losing control of the vehicle, hitting a school bus and other vehicles.

Police said the driver was the only one injured.

The crash was reported to police at 4:01 p.m. Police said that witnesses reported the driver of a pickup truck heading west on W. Town Street "appeared to be having a medical emergency, and lost control of the vehicle."

"The vehicle turned sharply, striking a school bus and several other vehicles, then came to rest in the parking lot of Global Gas Station at 154 W. Town Street," police said in the report on the incident. They said the driver was taken to William W. Backus Hospital by American Ambulance.

The Norwich police accident reconstruction team was investigating, according to the report.
