Nathan Lane was honored with the Monte Cristo Award on Monday for his accomplishments and contributions to the American theater.

The annual award is given by the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford.

At Monday's gala event at The Edison Ballroom in New York City, O'Neill trustee and actor Brian Dennehy presented the award to Lane. Dennehy and Lane recently co-starred in an acclaimed production of Eugene O'Neill's "The Iceman Cometh."

The night also included remarks by Lane's friends and colleagues Matthew Broderick and Susan Stroman, a tribute video from Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and various performances.

The Monte Cristo Award is given to a prominent theater artist in recognition of a distinguished career exemplifying Eugene O'Neill's "pioneering spirit, unceasing artistic commitment, and excellence." Past recipients of the award include Meryl Streep, Christopher Plummer and Michael Douglas.
