Lynyrd Skynyrd flies like a free bird into Foxwoods

Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd perform Friday at the Grand Theater at Foxwoods.

Lynyrd Skynyrd brings their groundbreaking and hugely influential stars ‘n’ bars rock back to Foxwood’s Grand Theater on Friday. Though the band is down to their last original member — guitarist Gary Rossington — a core group of longtime members, including guitarist Rickey Medlocke and vocalist Johnny Van Zandt, preserves the integrity of the nearly 50-year-old band.

The summer tour will also help promote “One More For the Fans,” a new CD/DVD available in June that captures an in-concert performance in Atlanta’s Fox Theater last fall. In addition to LS, a huge constellation of luminous guest stars took part, including Trace Adkins, Alabama, Gregg Allman, Charlie Daniels, Peter Frampton, Warren Haynes, John Hiatt, Jason Isbell, Jamey Johnson, Gov’t Mule, O.A.R., Robert Randolph, Blackberry Smoke, Cheap Trick and Donnie Van Zant.

Though none of those performers will join Skynyrd at Foxwoods, their participation on “One More For the Fans” is just another indication of the band’s incredible legacy.
