Casinos report 3 percent increase in September slots revenue

Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun reported Friday that their slot-machine revenues were up about 3 percent last month.

Foxwoods “won,” or kept, $37.2 million in slots wagers, a 3.2 percent increase over September 2014, while Mohegan Sun kept $47.7 million, a 2.7 percent increase.

Friday’s release of information marked a departure from the casinos’ practice of announcing slots revenues on the 15th of each month.

The calendar contributed to the favorable year-over-year comparisons, with the casinos benefiting from the fact that Labor Day Weekend took place during September this year. The holiday weekend occurred in August last year when Labor Day fell on Monday, Sept. 1.

Foxwoods achieved its September increase despite operating nearly 1,200 fewer machines than it did in the same month the previous year. The casino operated 4,583 slots last month, down from 5,759 in September 2014.

Mohegan Sun operated 5,126 slots last month, down from 5,416 last September.

Foxwoods sent $9.6 million of its September slots win to the state. Mohegan Sun contributed $11.9 million.
