State approves deal ending Boston's dispute over Wynn casino

Boston — The state is closing the books on Boston's bitter fight over Wynn Resorts' $1.7 billion casino development in neighboring Everett.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission approved on Thursday an accord reached last week. Wynn will pay Boston $400,000 more annually than they had previously agreed, for a total of $2 million in compensation per year.

Wynn and Boston also agreed to drop lawsuits related to the project.

Boston had sued the gaming commission, saying its 2014 decision to award Wynn a gambling license over Mohegan Sun was corrupt. Wynn filed a libel suit charging unknown defendants with defamation.

Monday's vote also authorized the state to release $1 million in payments from Wynn to Boston held in escrow during the dispute.

Lawsuits from other cities challenging the development are still pending.
