Thames River Heritage Park names executive director

New London — The Thames River Heritage Park has named Amy Perry as executive director.

Perry, who has been serving as the organization’s interim director, is responsible for building a collaboration among the nearly 20 heritage sites within the park to create a community of sites for a rich and relevant visitor experience.

Before joining the organization, Perry was principal at Smizer Perry, a marketing and design firm and, more recently, served as director of communications for Chamilia, a division of Swarovski.

“Southeastern Connecticut is rich with history and the Thames River Heritage Park will play a leading role in building awareness of and visitorship to the area. I’m thrilled to continue the work that has been in the making for so many years and by so many dedicated people,” Perry said in a statement.

The Thames River Heritage Park is a collection of national and historic sites along both shores of the Thames River that tell the stories that shaped our nation. It is the only Heritage Park in Connecticut. A key component of the park is the operation of a water taxi, which ferries riders to three locations: Fort Trumbull, the Downtown Historic Waterfront District in New London and Fort Griswold in Groton. The water taxi season ended on Sunday and will resume Memorial Day Weekend next year.

“The TRHP Foundation is pleased that Amy has accepted the position. Having the benefit of her experience has been a boon to the organization since she joined us and we look forward to continued progress in the future,” said Marian Galbraith, president of the Thames River Heritage Park board of directors.
