    College basketball notes

    Mullin returning to St. John's

Chris Mullin, St. John's all-time leading scorer and still the face of its basketball program three decades after his career ended, has agreed to coach the Red Storm, a person with knowledge of the discussions told The Associated Press on Monday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because there was no formal announcement.

Mullin, who led St. John's to the Final Four in 1985, has never coached at any level. He replaces Steve Lavin who agreed to leave last week, after five seasons during which the Red Storm reached the NCAA Tournament twice.

Mullin, a New York native, was a five-time All-Star with Golden State, a member of the USA's gold-medal winning "Dream Team" in 1992 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

The agreement was first reported by CBS Sports Network.

    Fordham hires Neubauer

Eastern Kentucky has announced that Jeff Neubauer has resigned after 10 seasons to become Fordham's next men's basketball coach.

Neubauer was the Colonels' second-winningest coach with a 188-134 record including two Ohio Valley Conference tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007 and 2014. EKU also played in three other postseason tournaments during a tenure featuring five 20-win seasons, the most for any coach in program history.

EKU won 21 games last season with a 28-point road win over No. 18 Miami in December.

    Bucknell's Paulsen moving to GMU

George Mason has hired Dave Paulsen as its men's basketball coach.

Paulsen was a three-time Patriot League coach of the year at Bucknell, taking the Bison to the NCAA Tournament twice.

George Mason announced his hiring two weeks after the school fired Paul Hewitt, who went 66-67 in four seasons.

Paulsen went 134-94 at Bucknell, where he arrived in 2008.

Before that, he coached Williams, his alma mater, for eight seasons and won the 2003 Division III championship.

George Mason went 9-22 this season, including 4-14 in the Atlantic 10, and lost their opening game in the conference tournament.

    Cincinnati's Cronin cleared to return

Cincinnati Bearcats coach Mick Cronin has been cleared to resume coaching after missing most of the season because of a problem with a blood vessel in the back of his head.

The 43-year-old wasn't permitted to coach games or practices after the problem was detected in December. Assistant Larry Davis took over and led the Bearcats to the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to Kentucky in their second game.

Cronin had more tests recently that found the problem had been resolved. The problem — known as arterial dissection — was treated with medication.

    Citadel names VMI's Baucom coach

Former VMI head coach Duggar Baucom is taking over Citadel men's basketball team.

Baucom spent the past 10 seasons with the Keydets, leaving with a 151-159 mark at the military college. He is VMI's all-time leader in wins and posted two 20-win seasons during his time at the school. The Keydets went 11-19 this past season.

VMI led the NCAA in scoring six times in Baucom's tenure, including five straight seasons from 2006 to 2010. Baucom coached the country's leading individual scorer, Reggie Williams, in the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
