    UConn rallies late to reach AAC baseball tournament semifinals

    Clearwater, Fla. — Joe DeRoche-Duffin's two-run homer capped a five-run eighth inning rally that lifted UConn to a dramatic 7-6 victory over Tulane in an elimination game at the American Athletic Conference baseball tournament on Friday.

    The Huskies (35-24) advance to Saturday's semifinal round at 1 p.m., where they must defeat East Carolina twice to reach Sunday's championship game.

    DeRoche-Duffin hit his 11th home run of the season to left after Vinny Siena drove in two with a triple and Bobby Melley got the comeback started with an RBI double.

    Anthony Kay, a starter for the Huskies, came out of the bullpen for the second straight day to earn his first save in over a year, pitching a scoreless ninth and striking out the final Tulane batter to end the game.

    Honors

    • Connecticut College senior Mike Clougher was named to the All-New England Conference Athletic Conference second team in men's rowing. It was the third straight year Clougher received All-NESCAC honors. He was also recognized by the conference on the Spring All-Academic and All-Sportsmanship Teams. Clougher finished his career in style by winning a gold men in the open collegiate sculling championship at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. In addition, Conn senior Annie Scheer was named to the All-NESCAC second team in women's rowing.

    • Eastern Connecticut State University's Lee Cattanach, a junior from New London and the Williams School, was named to the Capital One Academic Division III All-District Team, Cattanach is the only the second athlete in the history of the track & field and cross country programs to earn the award – the first since thrower Kurt Gannon was voted onto the district team in 2001-02. Cattanach is a double major in accounting and finance with a cumulative 3.88 GPA through last fall, After qualifying for the nationals during the cross country and indoor track seasons, Cattanach came back during the outdoor season and broke the school record at 800 meters (1:52.22) before an injury prevented him from competing in the regional postseason competition.
