Texas Tech coach Tubby Smith knew how a big 3-pointer he got from sophomore guard Keenan Evans.

It helped lift the Red Raiders to an overtime win over Iowa State on Wednesday night.

"Knowing it was just 2 seconds (on the shot clock), a heck of a play to put us up by three," Smith said. "We needed something like that to happen. It's happened against us a bit this year. Glad it was our turn."

Zach Smith made two free throws with 18 seconds remaining in overtime to seal the win.

It was the second straight year the Red Raiders beat the Cyclones in Lubbock. Last season, Iowa State was ranked ninth.

Deonte Burton scored a season-high 20 points and Abdel added 19 points to lead Iowa State (17-7, 6-5). Fans stormed the court after the victory.

Aaron Ross scored 20 points and Devaugntah Williams added 19 to lead Texas Tech (14-9, 4-7).

Iowa State built leads several times — in each half — only to watch the Red Raiders claw their way back. Two free throws by Smith in separate two trips to the free-throw line tied it at 78 at the end of regulation.

"We didn't finish," Cyclones coach Steve Prohm said. "We just didn't finish in crucial times."

Prohm said the loss, the Cyclones second in three games, was difficult.

"For those guys, I'm sick right now," he said.

The win gave the Red Raiders one more Big 12 victory than they had last season.

Evans' 3-pointer off an out-of-bounds play made it 83-80 with 1:34 left. Georges Niang hit two free throws with 29 seconds remaining to whittle the deficit to 83-82.

"That guy (Evans) shoots 31 percent from 3," Niang said. "He hits two big 3s in the second half. We're battling our tails off. We're not the deepest team. We're asking guys to play out of position. Our coach is first year. Working his tail off making ends meet. And then you get hit with that. It's like someone stabbing you in the stomach."

Matt Thomas missed a 3-pointer with 5 seconds remaining and Smith got the rebound to end the game.

Despite getting 50 points in the paint, the Cyclones couldn't stop the Red Raiders, who hit 10 of 26 3-pointers. In last year's upset of Iowa State, Texas Tech hit 11 3s to win.

Iowa State got four layups, a tip-in rebound by Niang and 3-pointers from Abdel Nader and Monte Morris to start the second half and build a 54-45 lead over the Red Raiders. But Texas Tech kept chipping away.

The Cyclones went up 30-22 on a 3-pointer by Jordan Ashton. But then Devaugntah Williams got hot for the Red Raiders, getting eight straight points from a field goal and back-to-back 3s to tie it at 30. Iowa State got just three field goals in the final 6:11 of the half. The two teams were tied at 37 at halftime.

George Niang, Iowa State's senior forward and leading scorer, finished with 18 points, six assists and two steals. He is a finalist for the Karl Malone Award and is one of five active players nationally to score 400 points in all four college seasons.

    Alabama 63, No. 15 Texas A&M 62

Retin Obasohan scored 16 points and Alabama held off a big rally from Texas A&M to hand the Aggies their third straight loss.

The Crimson Tide (14-9, 5-6 Southeastern Conference) beat its fourth ranked opponent of Avery Johnson's debut season despite missing its final three shots. Anthony Collins was fouled on a drive with 2.3 seconds left but missed both free throws for the Aggies (18-6, 7-4). They've dropped four consecutive SEC games since a 7-0 league start, tumbling from a program-best No. 5 ranking.

Riley Norris had 11 points for Alabama. Obasohan had five assists and three steals.

Jalen Jones scored 21 points for Texas A&M.

    Tulsa 82, No. 16 SMU 77

Shaquille Harrison had 21 points, Pat Birt hit a crucial 3-pointer and scored 12 of his 17 points after halftime and Tulsa rallied to beat SMU.

Nic Moore scored 27 to lead the Mustangs (20-3, 9-3 American Athletic). They lost for the first time in 13 home games and dropped to 2-3 since their 18-0 start to a season that won't include postseason play because of NCAA sanctions.

The Golden Hurricane (16-8, 8-4) ended a four-game losing streak against SMU with their eighth win in 10 games since an 0-2 conference start.

    No. 21 Baylor 82, Kansas State 72

Al Freeman scored 21 points, Taurean Prince had 18 and Baylor beat cold-shooting Kansas State to remain a game back of the leaders in the Big 12 race.

Playing without leading rebounder Rico Gathers due to illness, the Bears (18-6, 7-4) opened on an 8-2 run, led by as many as 14 in the first half and never trailed the rest of the way.

The Wildcats (14-10, 3-8) were 2 of 14 from beyond the arc, getting their only 3-pointers from Justin Edwards in the final minute. His first made it 72-65 with 58.3 seconds left, and his second after two free throws by Baylor's Ishmail Wainwright made it 74-68 with 47.4 seconds to go.

Edwards finished with 19 points, while D.J. Johnson had a career-high 19 points to go with eight rebounds for the Wildcats.

    Women

    No. 4 Baylor 81, TCU 75

Nina Davis scored 19 points, Niya Johnson had 14 assists and Baylor stretched its Big 12 winning streak to 11 games with a victory over TCU.

Freshman Kalani Brown had 14 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double with the Lady Bears (24-1, 11-1 Big 12), who never trailed after Alexis Jones hit a 3-pointer just over 4 minutes into the game.

Baylor has won 20 consecutive games in the series since 1990. The average margin had been almost 25 points in the previous seven games in the four seasons since the Horned Frogs joined the Big 12, and 16 had been the closest.

Zahna Medley scored 16 of her 24 points in the fourth quarter when the Horned Frogs (12-11, 4-8) scored 37 points — just one less than they had the previous three quarters combined.

    No. 6 Texas 70, No. 20 Oklahoma State 55

Brooke McCarty scored 18 points, Ariel Atkins added 16 and Texas beat Oklahoma State to sweep the two-game season series for the first time since 2006.

Center Imani Boyette had nine rebounds and five blocks for Texas (22-1, 11-1 Big 12). After she left the game with 5:45 remaining with four fouls, her backup, Kelsey Lang, made consecutive baskets to give the Longhorns a 12-point lead.

Brittney Martin led Oklahoma State (18-5, 8-4) with 21 points. Kaylee Jensen had 15 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.

No. 24 West Virginia 57, Iowa State 47

Bria Holmes scored 23 points and Lanay Montgomery had 15 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks to help West Virginia beat Iowa State.

It was tied at 45-all with 3:19 left to play before West Virginia closed on a 12-2 run. Montgomery started the spurt with a 3-point play and Holmes made two free throws with 57.5 seconds left.

Arielle Roberson tied a career high with 17 rebounds for West Virginia (19-6, 8-4 Big 12).

Seanna Johnson led Iowa State (12-11, 4-8) with 19 points and eight rebounds.
