The rate that the Connecticut Sun are racking up honors has started getting nutty.

Alyssa Thomas was named the WNBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday for games played July 3-9. It’s the second time in three weeks that Thomas has won the honor.

The Sun are also just the second team in WNBA history to have Player of the Week winners in four straight weeks. Second-year post Jonquel Jones won the award for the week ending June 18 and was also that month's Eastern Conference Player of the Month. Point guard Jasmine Thomas earned POTW honors last week.

Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx won the honor four successive weeks from July 13-Aug. 8 in 2014.

Alyssa Thomas is having the best season of her four-year career and, oddly enough, is doing it after an injury to starting power forward Morgan Tuck moved her to that position from small forward. Thomas helped the Sun (10-7) to a 2-0 week as she led Eastern Conference players in steals (4.5), ranked sixth scoring (16.0), tied for seventh in rebounding (6.5), and tied for fourth in assists (5.0).

Thomas highlighted her week by scoring 15 of her 19 points in the second half of Saturday’s 22-point rally over the Washington Mystics, 96-92. Thomas also had five rebounds, five assists, two steals and scored on a layup with 36.4 left to give the Sun a 94-92 lead.

It was Connecticut's ninth win in 11 games as it took over first place in the East.

Last Wednesday, Thomas had 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and tied teammate Jasmine Thomas the single-game franchise record for steals (seven) in an 89-56 win at the San Antonio Spurs.
