Sun's Miller named July's WNBA Coach of the Month

The Connecticut Sun had a fun July.

Connecticut rose to third place overall in the WNBA standings. Jonquel Jones and Alyssa and Jasmine Thomas played in their first All-Star Game with the latter two earning Eastern Conference of the Week honors.

The Sun earned one more accolade Tuesday as Curt Miller was named the WNBA Coach of the Month for July.

Miller guided Connecticut to a 7-2 record last month, the league's second-best record after the first place Minnesota Lynx (7-1). The Sun improved to 14-9, matching last season’s win total.

Connecticut led the WNBA in scoring (87.4 ppg) and steals (9.89 spg). The Sun also set a franchise record for the biggest comeback when they rallied from a 22-point deficit in the third quarter to beat the Washington Mystics, 96-92, on July 8. It was the second largest second-half comeback in WNBA history.

Minnesota's Cheryl Reeve was the other nominee for July’s Coach of the Month. She earned the honor in May, and Brian Agler of the world champion Los Angeles Sparks won the award in June.

The Sun host Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury on Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena (7 p.m.).
