Doyle Bramhall II plays the Knick
It's actually rare that guitarist Doyle Bramhall II gets to tour with his band Smokestack. So it's a treat that, on Saturday, he brings Smokestack to Westerly for a show in the Knickerbocker Cafe.
Of course, as a solo artist, Bramhall has produced a nice body of blues-based rock over two decades on albums such as "Jellycream," "Welcome" and "Doyle Bramhall 2."
If that sounds rather, ah, sparse, well, he's been busy:
He played in the ARC Angels with Charley Sexton, Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon.
He toured with Roger Waters.
For year's he's toured and recorded with Eric Clapton as a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist - and co-produced EC's 2013 album "Old Sock."
He's also worked with T-Bone Burnett, Questlove, Elton John, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Gary Clark, Jr., Gregg Allman, Dr. John and Allen Toussaint.
For all his much-in-demandness, though, Bramhall is terrific as leader of his wonderful band. And if you show up Saturday, be sure to request his amazing song called "Day Come Down."
