Beer tip: Baxter Brewing makes a fine Maine lager

    Tarnation Lager Baxter Brewing

I have a problem with craft beer hipsters. They refuse to acknowledge that a pilsner or lager can actually be good. Fortunately, many craft brewers go ahead and invent new pilsners and lagers anyway, probably because they recognize that idiots like myself actually DO like good beer — just good beer that's a lager or pilsner. Anyway, Baxter, an outfit in Lewiston, Maine, has a fine year-round lager called Tarnation. There are fine hoppy elements, a very dry finish, an illustration of a fun-having fisherman on the can, and it's damned refreshing when served very cold. Too, with a modest 5.4% alcohol content, you can slam 8 or 10 of them and still feel confident doing that late-summer chainsaw work. Just kidding about the chainsaw.
