The WoodenBoat Show always shows off a range of shiny, perfectly maintained wooden watercraft, whether they are mahogany runabouts or schooners. The 25th annual show, which comes to Mystic Seaport this weekend, will likewise offer an embarrassment of vessel riches — including Hōkūle'a, a 62-foot Polynesian voyaging canoe from Hawaii. It's travelling the world in an effort to increase awareness of Polynesian maritime culture and ocean conservation.

It stays at the seaport from Thursday morning through Tuesday. When it arrives, the boat will be part of a traditional welcoming ceremony that will include the Hōkūle'a's crew and Mashantucket Pequot representatives.

Visitors can go onboard the Hōkūle'a during designated periods and chat with the crew. On Saturday, crew member Kaleo Wong will talk about the science and art of traditional Pacific canoe navigation at 10 a.m., and Bruce Blankenfeld will demonstrate canoe lashing at 2:30 p.m.

The WoodenBoat Show, hosted in a partnership with WoodenBoat Publications, also promises exhibits selling items ranging from maritime art to tools to nautical gear; Mystic Seaport staff and guest experts holding boatbuilding-skills demos; and a chance for visitors to row or to sail a small boat.

WoodenBoat Show, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fri.-Sun., Mystic Seaport, Greenmanville Avenue; museum admission, which provides access to the show and is good for two days, is $26 adults, $24 ages 65 and up, $17 ages 6-17, free ages 5 and under; three-day pass $40 adults, $26 ages 6-17; (860) 572-0711.
