"Abstract Nature" exhibit opens Friday at Spectrum Gallery

Central Park reflection, digital print on canvas, by Robert Thomas

On the one hand, cynics might roll their eyes at the idea of an art exhibition wherein the works are inspired by nature. You know, the ol' "been there, painted that" argument. On the other hand, this is Nature we're talking about! Eternal, glorious, breath-taking in form and possibility ... and, yes, manifestly inspirational. Proudly, then, Spectrum Gallery and Store in Centerbrook opens its "Abstract Nature" collection with a reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday. Several artists working in a variety of forms — abstract painting, sculptors, photographers and mixed-media — explored their respective contextual fascinations. "Abstract Nature" runs through Sept. 10. The Spectrum Gallery and Store is located at 61 Main St., Centerbrook. Hours are noon-6 p.m. Wed.-Sat. and noon-5 p.m. Sun.; (860) 767-0742, spectrumartgallery.org.
