Wendy Walker and Alex Gilvarry sign latest books Thursday at Savoy Bookshop

    Alex Gilvarry (Alexandra Kleeman)

It'll be an intriguing twin bill when burgeoning-superstar authors discuss and sign their latest publications today at the Savoy Bookshop and Café in Westerly.

Psychological suspense novelist Wendy Walker, who lives in Fairfield County, is celebrating her brand new "Emma at Night," which received a starred review in Publishers Weekly. The film rights to her previous book, "All is Not Forgotten," were bought by Reese Witherspoon. "Emma at Night" involves the disappearance of teenage sisters. Three years later, only one of them returns, and forensic psychiatrist Dr. Abby Winter starts to believe the reappearance may actually be the start of a crime.

Joining Walker will be Alex Gilvarry, winner of the Hornblower Award for First Fiction and a recipient of fellowships from the Harry Ransom Center and the Norman Mailer Center. As in, major literary force. His second and latest novel, "Eastman Was Here," has just been published. Set in 1973, it's a dark but very funny story about Alan Eastman, a washed-up journalist/intellectual whose family has just deserted him. He gets a shot at retribution with an offer to write up-close and personal about the Vietnam War, but learns it's not easy to outrun your problems.

Alex Gilvarry and Wendy Walker, 6 p.m. tonight, Savoy Bookshop and Cafe, 10 Canal St., Westerly; free, books available for purchase; (401) 213-3901.
