Just last week, my colleague Rick Koster and I were having a conversation about the many celebrities who have died in plane crashes. I’ll sadly admit that I didn’t know all of them, ahem, Jim Croce. To make up for that, though, I was able to add in John Denver and Ritchie Valens. Others mentioned included Otis Redding, Buddy Holly, JFK Jr., Stevie Ray Vaughan, three members of Lynard Skynyrd, and the list goes on.

Last summer, comedian and actor Sinbad nearly joined those ranks, according to an interview he had with the Triad City Beat in July, claiming that his plane was downed by a flock of turkey buzzards while flying from Jacksonville, Florida. Thankfully, he survived, and by way of that, he’ll be making it to Foxwoods Friday for his standup comedy tour.

Though the comedian is best-known for his “clean act,” which doesn’t include profanities or sexual innuendos, he is ranked by Comedy Central as one of the 100 Greatest Standups of All Time. He is also remembered for his acting career and appeared in films such as “Jingle All The Way” and “Good Burger” and on the FX series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Strangely, he is also remembered by millennials who seem to be suffering from the Mandela Effect for his supposed role of a genie in a movie called “Shazaam” in the ‘90s. This movie doesn’t exist, but the argument that it did has taken the internet by storm.

See Sinbad Friday and find out how he’ll be etched into your memory, too.

Sinbad, 8 p.m. Friday, Foxwoods' Fox Theater; $45; 1-800-200-2882.
