The Florence Griswold Museum will showcase its collection of works on paper, which include prints, drawings and watercolors, this fall. Though works made on paper may sound simple, such pieces have come to represent a large component of the Florence Griswold Museum’s collection and, due to their fragility, some have never been seen before. “Paper Trail: American Prints, Drawings, and Watercolors,” organized by assistant curator Jennifer Stettler Parsons, will follow the “paper trail” of paper acquisitions and gifts made to the museum over its history. The collection has grown in scope since the museum's Lyme Art Colony days and include works created with ink, graphite, watercolor, and pastel from the 18th century to the present.

The show will open with a display of more than 20 “Wiggle Drawings,” or caricatures drawn by artists from the Lyme Art Colony, offering a glimpse into the historical trends and social interests that were popular at the time, such as Western motifs and cowboys. The show will also feature works by artists including Fidelia Bridges, Chauncey F. Ryder and Thomas Nason, among others.

"Paper Trail" will open to the public on Saturday and will run through Jan. 29. The museum is located at 96 Lyme St., Old Lyme. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tues.-Sat., 1-5 p.m. Sun. Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, $13 for students, $5 for members, free for ages 12 and under; (860) 434-5542, www.florencegriswoldmuseum.org. — Mary Biekert
