High school football capsules / Week 11
Today's Games
Montville at Fitch, 6:30 p.m.
Records: Montville 5-4; Fitch 0-9.
Last week: Montville was idle; Fitch lost to Waterford 23-7.
Outlook: The Indians were off last week and it probably came at a good time after being throttled by East Lyme 37-14 on Nov. 7, their third loss in four games and arguably their most disappointing performance of the season. Montville, however, has an excellent chance to salvage its season and finish 7-4 by defeating the Falcons and then St. Bernard/Norwich Tech on Thanksgiving Eve. The Falcons, meanwhile, are trying to avoid a winless season and with unbeaten and playoff-bound Ledyard still awaiting on Thanksgiving Day, this might be their best chance for a win. Fitch played one of its most competitive games a week ago against Waterford.
St. Bernard/Norwich Tech at Cheney Tech, 6:30 p.m.
Records: St. Bernard/Norwich Tech 1-8; Cheney Tech 7-3.
Last week: St. Bernard/Norwich Tech lost to Plainfield 42-6; Cheney Tech lost to Prince Tech 54-13.
Outlook: Tonight's game is a nonleague matchup, but next season this becomes a rivalry game when the Saints join Cheney Tech in the Constitution State Conference. It's been another difficult season for St. Bernard/Norwich Tech, its lone win coming against Wolcott Tech, and the Saints will be facing an angry Cheney Tech team which had its postseason hopes dashed a week ago by Prince Tech, but can finish the season 8-3. The Saints end their season six days from now when they play crosstown rival Montville for the final time on Thanksgiving Eve. St. Bernard/Norwich Tech will begin a Thanksgiving series with Woodstock Academy in 2015.
