High school football / Tuesday preview capsules

    TODAY'S GAMES

    Montville at St. Bernard/Norwich Tech, 6:30 p.m.

    Records: Montville 6-4; St. Bernard/Norwich Tech, 1-9.

Last week: Montville defeated Fitch 40-19; St. Bernard/Norwich Tech lost to Cheney Tech 52-26.

Outlook: This will be the finally holiday meeting between the crosstown schools as the Saints play their final game as a member of the Eastern Connecticut Conference before joining the Constitution State Conference next season. The Indians have been inconsistent at times this fall, but Tanner Grove's program continues to churn out winning seasons. This game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night but officials pushed it back a day due to the forecast of inclement weather.

    Haddam-Killingworth at Valley Regional/Old Lyme, 6:30 p.m.

    Records: Haddam-Killingworth 4-6, 3-5 Pequot Sassacus; Valley/Old Lyme 10-0, 8-0.

Last week: Haddam-Killingworth lost to Cromwell 26-14 (Nov. 14), Valley/Old Lyme defeated Hyde 37-14 (Nov. 14).

Outlook: Valley/Old Lyme has already clinched the Pequot Sassacus Division title and a Class S playoff berth, but the Warriors are still playing for a perfect regular season and a home game in the state semifinals against their rival. Valley/OL has one of the state's top defensive teams, allowing a touchdown or less in six games with three shutouts. The 14 points allowed against Hyde were the most the Warriors have given up in a game this season, so the Cougars will have their work cut out for them. This game was also pushed back a day due to the forecast of inclement weather.
